AIL SGA Latonya Tucker: Video Transcript

Hi, my name is LaTonya Tucker, and I am a State General Agent with American Income Life out of Missouri.  I have been with the company for nine years now.  I started in Chicago and NW Indiana where Scott Smith, vice president of the company today, was my State General Agent. 

One of Scott’s Regional Managers, who was running his satellite office at the time in Indiana, tried to personally recruit my sister, Tasha, right off the streets. Tasha was selling cologne and perfume on the street, and he was convinced that he was not going to buy. He said she was so good and so convincing, had so much energy, and such a nice smile, that, not only did he buy, he ended up buying two bottles.  So, he turned to her and said, ‘If you can sell this, you would make a killing selling life insurance.’  Well, she wasn’t interested, but she said, ‘Why don’t you give my sister LaTonya a call?  She just got her insurance license.’ Talk about perfect timing. I was working at a telemarketing company at the time.  I was selling credit card insurance over the phone, and they had given me an opportunity to get my insurance license.  I had never planned on using it.  So, I got a call from the Manager saying that he met my sister, and he invited me in for an interview.

I was broke.  I was busted, disgusted; I was going nowhere, so I had nothing to lose.  We set the interview up, and I remember that interview like it was yesterday. I’m sitting in there, and he’s telling me about this huge opportunity and how it changed his life – and how I can advance at the company.  All I can focus on are his nice rings, nice watch, nice suit, nice office, the plaques on the wall.  Then he shows me paychecks – $2,000, $3,000, $4,000 a week. I remember going home and asking God to give me a sign – is this for me?  HE showed me a vision on how I was going to be successful, and HE spoke to me like I’m speaking to you and told me – THIS IS IT!

I went back to my sister and said, ‘You should start this with me.’  Again, she wasn’t interested, so I didn’t say anything else.  I worked for a year-and-a-half, and then she came to me and said, ‘Now you got my attention, I know you’re making money – how do I get in?’  And the rest is pretty much history.

A year-and-a-half ago, I was promoted to State General Agent and given the opportunity to move to Missouri. My sister came to me and said, ‘If you accept the position, I would even move with you.’  We have been working together ever since.   I am more excited about American Income Life now than I was nine years ago.
